The National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) released their 2014 Kitchen Design Trends survey in which 420 kitchen design professionals participated. The five trends from our previous blog 2014 Kitchen Remodeling Trends were included with an increased popularity in contemporary design, quartz countertops, glass backsplashes and polished chrome.
Contemporary Design
This style might surpass transitional design, which is a blend of traditional and contemporary elements. “While transitional styles are still number one, we see ktichen design trending more contemporary this year, with clean, simple lines; less clutter, and little ornamentation,” said John Petrie, CMKBD, or Mother Hubbard’s Custom Cabinetry in Mechanicsburg, Pa., and 2014 NKBA President.
Quartz Countertops
Quartz countertops are an excellent compliment to contemporary or transitional design. Granite and marble countertops have much more movement in their color schemes, unlike quartz, which is consistent throughout. The consistency in the color can help pull together clean lines in a contemporary or transitional kitchen design.
Glass Tile
This title works well in contemporary and transitional design. Glass is currently the third most popular backsplash material, but is expected to move to one of the top two spots by the end of 2014.
Polished Chrome
Polished Chrome is expected to grow in popularity for faucets and cabinet hardware. Satin nickel is the most popular faucet finish and due to its versatility will continue to remain a popular choice for designers.
