You may want your kitchen to be a continuation of the rest of your home or you may want it to stand out from the rest of your home.  Either way, a kitchen should reflect your family’s personal style. There are so many choices from cottage to modern to country and beyond.  A great kitchen that defines your family will affect the climate of your entire home-choose it wisely!

1. Modern Kitchen – Think of the fabulous kitchen ideas you get from HGTV.  Chances are the style is modern, which embraces the character and charm of the mid-20th century and breathes new life into it.  Appliances are updated to more functional and current materials and things are kept simple and clean.  By mixing materials and finishes such as a butcher block island countertop and sleek white quartz countertops everywhere else, these kitchens scream eclectic charm and really afford a lot of personality to shine through the décor.

2. Country Kitchen
– A country kitchen is the kind of kitchen that welcomes you in and makes you want to sit down to a piece of warm apple pie.  Large farmhouse tables and furniture-like cabinetry create a lived-in look that is comfortable and cozy.  Colors can range from primaries to tones of cream and pale yellow. A country kitchen is meant to be used; therefore, the space is functional and easy to work in.  Open shelving, wide farmhouse sinks, classic flooring, and oversized dining tables make this a choice many families can embrace and enjoy.

3. Traditional Kitchen – A traditional kitchen is likely to appeal to the largest percentage of homeowners because of its classic features.  Timeless white tiles and vintage light fixtures add character and charm, in addition to the added details of raised-panel cabinets, arches, and moldings.  Time-honored white or dark, rich cabinets adorn the walls of these kitchens making this a solid choice that will hold its style and appeal for years to come.

Lines are straight and clean, appliances are high end, and organization is key.  High-shine surfaces make this option closer to something you would see in a Jetson’s kitchen.  While some may argue these kitchens are cold and uninviting, others love the simplistic design and ease of maintenance.

5. Cottage Kitchen – Cottage-style kitchens are always unique and serve as the perfect backdrop for off-beat art and collectibles. Cozy, happy, and unpretentious, a cottage kitchen is reminiscent of simpler times and evokes a sense of easy, care-free living. White beadboard, open cabinets, soft colors, vintage hardware, wood floors, and warm colorful accents will infuse the kitchen with the comforts associated with an intimate cottage.

6. Transitional Kitchen – So what if you are traditional and your other half is contemporary?  Rather than have a piece of duct tape dividing the room between two styles, opt for a transitional style kitchen that embraces traditional design with the simplicity of contemporary style.  For example, take a traditional kitchen and add bamboo floors instead of traditional tile or hardwood to take it from traditional to transitional.  There is a lot of flexibility with this kitchen style, which makes it a great choice if the two of you can’t agree on one particular style.
